There’s a twist in a shooting that wounded an Albuquerque woman Tuesday afternoon.
Albuquerque Police say the woman who was shot by her ex-boyfriend was supposed to testify against him.
Albuquerque Police continue to search for Rastice Burdex.
The 20-year-old has a criminal record that continues to grow.
Police say Burdex shot his ex-girlfriend at her home near Mountain and Broadway.
Witnesses say he drove up to her home Tuesday afternoon.
Court documents say, “[the woman] told Rastice to leave”…her “brother came out of the residence to proect [his sister] due to their past domestic violence incidents.”
That is when “Burdex fired a gun through the passenger side of the front window [at the woman’s] brother.”
A bullet struck a tire. Police say seven children were in the line of fire.
"Burdex then fired a second round at [the woman] striking her in the lower right side of her abdomen," according to a criminal complaint.
But the case has taken a bizarre turn.
APD learned the woman who had been shot was supposed to have appeared in court hours earlier on Tuesday. She was going to testify against Burdex in a different case. The woman did not appear. Those charges were dismissed and hours later, police say Burdex drove to her house and shot her.
Police say they have no idea why Burdex would shoot the woman.
Burdex had been indicted in a June 2012 case for stabbing the woman’s brother and putting several children at risk.
Rastice Burdex was last seen driving away in a 1993 light brown or gold Ford Taurus.
Police say there’s a possibility he might still be in the Albuquerque area.
