Surveillance cameras around Boston played a huge role in identifying the suspects. But what is surveillance like in Albuquerque?
There are over 200 cameras throughout the city and these cameras have helped police catch robbery suspects and shooting suspects. So for them, like Boston, this tool is vital.
Albuquerque Police rely heavily on these surveillance cameras. “Video is an incredible tool,” said T.J. Wilham with the Albuquerque Police Department's Smart Policing Division.
The cameras can capture something as far away as 200 feet.
If a crime did happen, there’s certain things law enforcement look for when they go through the hours worth of surveillance.
“One of the things we’re looking for in searching the crowds is seeing okay, who’s running? Who’s acting suspicious at all?” said Wilham.
The city also works with local businesses to monitor their cameras. They say since the explosion in Boston, they’ve received over a dozen calls from businesses interested in working with the city.
