KOB Eyewitness News 4 got a first look at the 24 year-old man who, police said, stabbed several people at an Albuquerque church Sunday afternoon.
Lawrence Capener is still in police custody Monday morning at MDC.
Capener is being charged with three counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
KOB spoke to multiple witnesses Sunday, who described the horrific scene inside St. Jude Thaddeus Church.
One person told KOB Capener jumped over a pew and started punching the church choir director. After multiple punches, witnesses said he pulled out a knife and started stabbing.
KOB learned a group of men ran toward Capener and jumped him to stop him from stabbing. While the men jumped him, witnesses said Capener began to scream for his mom, who KOB found out is a Eucharistic minister at the church.
Police have not released a motive for the attack.
