The KOB 4 On Your Side Team is launching a new segment that allows viewers to ask the 4OYS team questions and get answers. The segment is called “Good Question.”
A viewer sent the 4OYS team a photo of a muscle car on New Mexico’s roadways with a government license plate. The viewer wanted to know why any local government would need a hotrod in their fleet.
Through inspection of public record requests and with a few phone calls, we tracked the license plate to the Albuquerque Police Department.
The 1970 Chevelle SuperSport seen in the photo was seized by the department recently, the 4OYS team learned.
"It's a very rare car and unfortunately someone owned this until they decided to make a poor choice and go drinking and driving," said Paul Judd with APD.
According to Judd, the vehicle travels around the city to show what can happen when someone makes the choice to drink and drive.
"Not only will you be arrested and pay the fines for drinking and driving, one of the other consequences-- we can technically wind up owning your vehicle and selling it at an auction or using it for public relations events," Judd said.
The department hopes people can see how much they will lose if they booze and cruise. In the case of the 1970 Chevelle, the offender lost one of the nicest hotrods in the Duke City.
APD plans on painting the car to look like the traditional police cars in the near future.
