Heartbreaking words were heard from an 8 year-old girl inside an Albuquerque courtroom Monday.

Prosecutors said the little girl witnessed the brutal rape of her one year-old sister.

A judge sentenced Ralph Maestas to 30 years in prison Monday. Police said he raped the daughter of his then girlfriend back in 2010.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 was in court and heard from the doctor who helped treat the one year-old after it happened, as well as the toddler’s foster parents.

Probably one of the most difficult things to hear was a pre-recorded interview with the baby’s 8 year-old sister who prosecutors said saw the abuse happen in 2010. In the interview she said, “Ralph hurt my little sister.” The girl went on and tried to describe what happened but paused during her explanation. It seemed she was nervous telling what happened.

The whole time the tape was being played, Maestas showed little emotion. Every now and then, he would nod his head.

The therapist who’s working with the baby’s sister and brother also spoke in court. She said in her 20 years of work, she has never heard such trauma.

The doctor who helped treat the toddler said she will most likely not be able to have children.

Maestas’ family also wanted to address the judge but Maestas didn’t want them to.
