A man returns to settle his check with a local café…sixteen years later. Now the owner and previously anonymous man finally meet.
A 14-year-old Matt Sanchez wanted to impress his girlfriend with a fancy dinner at a French restaurant, but only had so much money. He realized it wasn’t enough a little too late. That’s where Claus Hjortkjaer came in and lent the young Sanchez the extra money, telling him to pay him back when he could and that he wouldn’t tell Sanchez’s date.
Years passed and when Sanchez came back to repay the restaurant had closed. But Hjortkjaer reopened this month at a location close to where Sanchez worked. One day Sanchez stopped in for lunch and left a $100 bill, more than enough to settle the old debt.
Sanchez said that experience taught him to be a generous and good guy. As for the girlfriend she never found out about the deal between Sanchez and Hjortkjaer.
