Woman accused of bringing drugs into Hobbs prison

HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has been accused of trying to smuggle drugs into a New Mexico prison to an inmate.
    
Officials at the Lea County Correctional Facility in Hobbs say Ramona Lucero was taken into custody Thursday.
    
They say she was a visitor to the prison and allegedly was found carrying three balloons that tested positive for heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana.
    
State corrections officials say Lucero is being held on suspicion of bringing contraband into a correctional institution.
    
They say the inmate Lucero was meeting also is facing charges. He's serving sentences for burglary and receiving stolen property.
    
Prison officials say their heard the inmate talking on the telephone to Lucero and allegedly hatching a plan to deliver drugs to him.
    
Authorities didn't immediately know if Lucero has a lawyer.
