LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A Las Cruces teenager found more than $2,300 in cash in a shopping cart and then found the wallet's owner.
Authorities say 13-year-old Marcos Gonzales-Nunez was at a grocery store with his family when he spotted a wallet beneath the flap in a shopping cart that doubles as a bench for toddlers.
Inside the wallet was a bank envelope full of $100 bills.
Gonzales-Nunez's father tracked down the woman who owns the wallet at her north Las Cruces home.
Kelly Bloomfield says she had cashed two paychecks for an upcoming family trip to Utah. She then went to a grocery store to buy dinner for her husband and four children.
She told the Las Cruces Sun-News that she gave Gonzales-Nunez $100 for his honesty.
