Gene Apodaca

Raised in Albuquerque, Gene has close ties to the city with family throughout New Mexico. He loves to visit the Sandias and doesn’t miss an opportunity to sample New Mexico chile (red or green).

Professionally, Gene has been in front of the camera for more than 15 years. As a reporter and anchor in Odessa, Texas he covered the Siege of Texas and the 10-year anniversary of Baby Jessica. Those stories were just the beginning of a series of major stories to come.

In Corpus Christi, Texas Gene covered the murder of Tejano Singer. However, it wasn’t until Gene move to West Palm Beach, Florida that he saw his biggest challenge. Gene was on the front lines during the 2000 presidential election which turned out to be the most contested presidential race ever.

Gene later moved to Miami where he covered a series of deadly hurricanes. Eventually, Gene moved to Houston, Texas where he covered everything from NASA to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Gene is happy to take a break from hard news as he dives into the diverse topics on Good Day New Mexcio.
