BERNALILLO, N.M. (AP) - A detective who doubted that the wife of an Albuquerque police officer committed suicide is testifying in the former officer's murder trial.

Former Valencia County Sheriff's Detective Aaron Jones took the stand Wednesday morning in  the trial of Levi Chavez, who is accused of shooting his 26-year-old wife, Tera, with his department-issued gun and trying to make the shot look self-inflicted. He is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence and has pleaded not guilty.

Jones was one of the first deputies to arrive at the couple's Los Lunas home in 2007.

Defense attorney David Serna says Jones is a "dirty, dishonest" cop.
