It’s a case that makes you question the condition of mental health care in New Mexico.

Clayton Senn has a long history of mental problems. He has been arrested for randomly attacking strangers in the past, one time stabbing a man near his groin. Last year, he somehow got stuck in the marsh in the bosque for three days in the cold, resulting in both feet being amputated.

4 On Your Side has learned that on Sunday, an employee at Burlington Coat Factory saw Senn mumbling to himself. The employee tried to help but Senn got aggressive so the police were called and he was transported to Lovelace on the west side.

Lovelace wouldn’t comment on Senn’s case, but after he was released on Monday he went across the street to Smith’s. Witnesses say he hit a three-year-old boy in the head with a hammer, fracturing his skull. Senn also allegedly tried to attack two girls.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 has been told the boy is going to recover. Senn is now undergoing a mental evaluation and is being held at the Bernalillo County jail on a $150,000 bond.
