UPDATE: Suspect in girlfriend's slaying turns himself in

Valencia County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a murder suspect after a homicide near Los Lunas Wednesday night.

Around 8:45 p.m., a man walking around the Sycamore Village Apartments at 5 Laurel Place began talking to 19-year-old Joseph Bibiano. Behind the suspect, the man saw a woman lying on the floor, so he asked what was wrong. The man told deputies that Bibiano then confessed to killing her.

The man called 911, but as he waited for deputies to arrive, Bibiano fled the scene in a 1998 white Ford Taurus with New Mexico plates reading MDT186.

Deputies are not saying how the man knew Bibiano.

Authorities believe the woman killed was Bibiano's girlfriend. They have notified her family but are not releasing her name at this time. She is around 18 years old.

Deputies have secured an arrest warrant for murder for Bibiano. He is from Los Lunas but they do not know where he is headed. Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's office at (505)-866-2400.
