PECOS, N.M. -- The state's Drinking Water Bureau has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the San Juan Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association.
The advisory was issued Thursday night following a series of water line breaks within their distribution system. These breaks are not believed to have anything to do with recent wildfires in the area.
The San Juan water system is located along I-25 abuot 5 miles east of Pecos in San Miguel County.
This advisory only applies to drinking water for the San Juan water system and does not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems. The drinking water system serves a population of approximately 150 people.
Consumers are advised to use water sparingly and seek an alternate source of drinking water, such as bottled water, or boil the water for five minutes before drinking, cooking and dishwashing.
No contamination has been detected in the drinking water system at this time.
