Albuquerque has a couple of big 4th of July events coming up, and preparations were underway on Wednesday.
It’s a tough choice: balloon park blowout or ballpark blowout?
If it’s baseball on the 4th, we’re talking Isotopes versus the Iowa Cubs with lots of fireworks. Ground crew workers were busy Wednesday afternoon laying out red white and blue borders along the infield and outfield.
“The ballpark is really going to be sparkling,” said Isotopes general manager John Traub. “When people walk in they’re going to see new patterns on the field. They’re going to see some fancy new touches with the logo. It’s really a weekend that we celebrate America. We celebrate baseball!”
And it’s three straight nights of post-game fireworks – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The only seats left for Thursday night are on the grass berm in the outfield – and they’ll go fast.
At Balloon Fiesta Park it will be one big night of fireworks on the 4th, with live music, a car show, and don’t forget food. Workers were busy on Wednesday, setting up the Goliath of all carnival food stands for Roadrunner Concessions.
“Every day that we do events out here is a big day for us,“ said Roadrunner’s Eddie Joe Esquibel. “As long as the people are going to be happy with what we put out there for them, we’ll be fine. We serve turkey legs, corn on the cob, burgers, fries, cotton candy.”
Workers were also setting up the stage for country star John Michael Montgomery, who will perform from 8:15 pm to fireworks time. It should be a little after 9:15 pm.
And yes – there will be a beer garden!
