A military family targeted on the 4th of July, a day that should be about the red, white, and blue.  Some people in Alamogordo weren’t feeling so patriotic.

A cul-de-sac tucked away in Alamogordo, it’s a place you wouldn’t normally expect something like this to happen.

The military homeowners weren’t celebrating when they woke up on the 4th of July and saw the message, “America, Home of the Free in Ignorance You Trust” plastered on the side of their home.

"Why Alamogordo, why here?” said Clarence Walking Eagle, a friend of the homeowners.  "Kind of ironic, fighting for our country and something like this has to happen to their house.

The red spray paint has since been removed.  It was faded but still visible from the street when KOB Eyewitness News 4 drove by today.

This house wasn’t the only one. Christ Community Church down the street also got hit.  "It’s sad that somebody has to do something like that," said Pastor Perry Koehne.

They spent their 4th of July scrambling to get rid of all traces of the profanity covering their entrance.

"It's an eyesore, somebody writes cuss words on your house what do you do?” said Koehne.

The church used more ways than one to get rid of the paint.  "Paint strippers, paint removers, cleaners, pressure washers, all kind of stuff," said Koehne.  "It's not the first time this has happened and it probably won't be the last."

KOB talked to the homeowners off camera.  They didn’t want to go on camera because the investigation is still ongoing.
