SANTA FE (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez is among the dignitaries and mourners paying their respects to former Gov. David Cargo, who's lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda.
Martinez greeted Cargo's family as they arrived Thursday at the Capitol. Family members walked into the building behind Cargo's flag-draped casket, which was carried by State Police officers and National Guard troops.
Martinez spoke to the family, telling them Cargo was an "amazing man."
A memorial service is planned Thursday afternoon and Martinez is among those scheduled to speak.
Cargo served consecutive two-year terms as governor, from 1967 through 1970. He took office at age 37, the youngest man ever to serve as governor of New Mexico.
A funeral mass will be Friday at Santa Fe's Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.
