ALBUQUERQUE -- Thanks to recent rainfall in the mid-valley region, the Bosque will reopen in Sandoval, Bernalillo, Valencia and Socorro counties effective Tuesday, July 16.
The closure lasted nearly eight weeks due to severe drought conditions.
Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry will be briefed by the fire department Saturday on the current fire threat in the Bosque and the decision will be announced on Monday.
All areas outside city limits, however, have been approved to open on Tuesday.
All visitors are encouraged to use Bosque facilities and trails, but are reminded to obey the policy that prohibits open fires, smoking, motorized vehicles and spark emitting equipment within the Bosque area.
The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District continues to assess the drought conditions on a daily basis, and should conditions warrant, a closure order could be reissued.
