After inclement weather prevented firefighting efforts on Monday, the Sandia Ranger District says it is now safe to contain a small fire spotted in the Sandia Mountains.
John Helmich with the ranger district said the fire was reported yesterday in the area of last year's Chimney Fire. Crews hiked near the area Tuesday morning and put a fire line around the blaze, which they believe has burned about one-tenth of an acre.
The rangers are now waiting for a helicopter to put the fire out with water.
Crews plan to hike to the area again this afternoon.
