Bikers and runners eagerly awaited the Rio Grande Bosque's reopening on Tuesday morning.
The wooded area had been closed since June 10 due to fire risk, but Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry and the fire department approved the reopening for 8 a.m. today.
Recent rain was a big part of the decision to lift the closure. Because of the downpours, AFD has downgraded the fire restrictions to the lowest level: Stage 1.
The Sandia Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest also reopened this morning.
