Bernalillo County today launched a new campaign to create more awareness about the county's parks and open space properties.
BernCo Bernie represents the eight sheep in the county's seal now serving as ambassadors to promote Bernalillo County parks and open space properties.
Eight BernCo Bernies have been hidden at various open space sites waiting to be discovered. Residents are encouraged to explore the county's outdoor gems and find all eight BernCo Bernies.
Individuals who find all eight sheep will become a part of the illustrious Bernie's Herd. The first 200 will have a special surprise awaiting them.
"Bernalillo County's open space properties and parks are the best kept secret in the county,” says County Manager Tom Zdunek. "We hope to change that by bringing attention to our wonderful parks and open space properties that contribute so much to the quality of life in our community."
Bernalillo County maintains 12 open space properties and 36 parks that reach from one end of the county to the other. Activities at these properties range from prescription walking trails and hiking to water splash pads and pools; from skateboarding to bird-watching; and, from equestrian activities to hang glider landings.
