New Mexico State Police have released the identity of the man shot by Santa Fe police Thursday night.

State police said 25-year-old Roberto Mendez of Santa Fe fired multiple shots at officers when they attempted to pull him over at the Allsups on Cerrillos Road. Mendez was driving a car matching the description of a stolen vehicle.

Officers pursued Mendez down the road to Big 5 Sporting Goods. Santa Fe police fired back and shot Mendez in the face, according to NMSP.
