A rare portrait is now on display at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History.

The museum curator, Andrew Connors, told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that a private collector owns several pieces by artist Andrew Wyeth.

The collector spread them throughout the United States because she wanted to share them.

Connors says she chose New Mexico because Wyeth was taught by Roswell artist Peter Hurd.

He says that is where Wyeth learned his technique.

While living in Pennsylvania, the Roswell artist fell in love with Wyeth’s sister.

“He fell in love with Andrew Wyeth’s sister, [Henriette] Ariet Wyeth, and he married Ariet Wyeth and brought her back to New Mexico and she became one of the important women artists in New Mexico as well,” said Connors.

The portrait will be on display for the next five years.
