He wants cash and he’s not shy about taking it.

Albuquerque police want to catch the bad guy who has now robbed at least nine people at ATMs across the city. Now they’re giving us a real good look at the strong-arm robber and how he operates.

Police have released a security camera video from June 24 at bank of the West on Carlisle just east of Constitution. It shows a 55-year-old woman making a withdrawal from the ATM outside the bank at 7:30 a.m.  A muscular black man appears behind her and waits patiently in line for a few seconds.

Then he moves slowly toward her and when she turns with the money in her hand, he strikes – like a hammerhead shark on a swimming puppy. He smashes her to the ground with an elbow in her face. She resists. He takes the money and turns away. She gets up, attempts to follow him, but has second thoughts. He’s long gone.

Police are hoping that somebody will recognize this guy, either from the video or from a still shot taken at another ATM robbery earlier this month. If you know him, give Crime Stoppers a call at 843-STOP.
