Homeowner shoots bear trying to get into house

TIJERAS, N.M. -- A homeowner shot and killed a bear reportedly trying to break into a house in Tijeras on Friday morning.

According to Sgt. Aaron Williamson of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, the homeowner fired a shot to scare the bear off when it showed up in the backyard.

A short time later, the bear reportedly came back and tried to get into the home. That's when the resident shot the bear.

New Mexico Game and Fish were still at the home as of 10 a.m.
