Gay couples in San Miguel and Valencia counties can begin applying for marriage licenses on Wednesday.
Valencia County Clerk Peggy Carabajal told KOB Eyewitness News 4 she received dozens of calls asking for more information since the announcement yesterday.
The San Miguel County clerk's office will begin issuing licenses at 8 a.m. In Valencia County, couples can get their licenses starting at noon.
Carabajal said before she made the decision, she read over the state's constitution and consulted with the county's attorney. Even still, she said she thinks the high court should make the decision, not just individual clerks.
San Miguel County Clerk Melanie Rivera said she will change old applications if necessary while waiting for new gender-neutral forms. She told the Las Vegas Optic she had previously wanted to issue licenses to gay couples, but was concerned about legal issues.
Both clerks' offices will maintain normal business hours until 5 p.m. today.
