ALBUQUERQUE -- Authorities have lifted a shelter-in-place order for two northeast Albuquerque schools after capturing a bear spotted in a nearby tree.

Police at the scene told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that they responded to the scene around 11 a.m. on reports of a bear in a tree in front of Kennedy Middle School, located on 721 Tomasita St. NE.

Staff and students at both Kennedy Middle School and Tomasita Elementary School were ordered to stay inside as a precautionary measure.

Wardens darted and captured the 200 pound adult male bear. It had not been previously tagged for wandering in the city.

Game and Fish officials say the bear is in good condition and will be relocated.
