Coming off its first win of the season, the Lobo football team fell back to Earth against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The Lobos lost 49-27 to the Panthers at Heinz Field.
The Lobo defense had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, but the offense could not capitalize on the turnovers.
Pitt threw a touchdown pass with seconds left in the first half and the Panthers were up 35-6 at halftime.
New Mexico had just 59 yards of total offense going into the half.
Three second half touchdowns by the Lobos helped soften the blow, but in the end the Panthers were too much to handle.
New Mexico's Kasey Carrier, the nation's leading rusher, was held to just 22 yards on seven carries.
Quarterback Clayton Mitchem also had a rough day going 8 for 15 for 64 yards.
New Mexico (1-2) will have a bye next week.
