CROWNPOINT, N.M. -- A scary situation for some New Mexicans unfolded over the weekend as they were forced to evacuate because of heavy rain and flooding.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 learned that there was fear of a dam breaking in Crownpoint. KOB has since learned the dam did not break as officials had anticipated.
New Mexico Corrections Department offenders were sent out to fill sandbags. Also, Crownpoint schools have been canceled Monday.
In southern New Mexico, in the Cloudcroft area, some people were forced to evacuate. A shelter has been set up at Cloudcroft High School.
If you plan on driving in that area Monday morning, officials urge you not to because of the debris from the flooding.
