An Albuquerque teen says she was groped and hit by inmates when she took a tour of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center over the weekend.
The 16-year-old girl was there with a friend who was ordered to tour the jail as her sentencing. She says there were about six teen girls on the tour. They ate jailhouse food and were even given inmate clothing. But she says the experience took a scary turn when they were taken to the womens' cells, and the inmates were let out.
She claims for about 40 minutes, the female inmates got in their faces, groping and hitting them while the guards just watched.
"I was terrified because I thought if I said anything like go away or stop touching me, that she would have punched me and they would have let it happen. Because they were letting her punch my leg," the girl said.
Her father says he has already contacted MDC, the Governor's office, and the Mayor's office. KOB Eyewitness News 4 got this statement from MDC:
"These allegations are currently being investigated. We are attempting to coordinate our fact-finding efforts with those who are in charge of both the Metro Teen Court operation, as well as CYFD. So far, we have found nothing to substantiate the allegations, but when the investigation is complete we will let the appropriate individuals know."
