SANTA FE (AP) - Federal officials say five Santa Fe residents have been arrested on federal charges of trafficking in the powerful narcotic Oxycodone and two others on marijuana trafficking charges.
Two others were charged in federal court with marijuana trafficking and another on state marijuana trafficking charges.
The arrests happened in Santa Fe, where teams of officers from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies raided three homes and a business Thursday.
The U.S. attorney's office in Albuquerque says three men and two women were named in an indictment charging them with conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone and other federal crimes.
The arrests came after an investigation was launched in January in response to what officials call an "epidemic" increase in prescription drug abuse, addiction and overdose deaths in New Mexico.
