A viewer asked us why the city's doing construction on other East-West thoroughfares like Alameda at the same time as the Paseo project. We went straight to the city to find out.
The city is working on a massive project to redevelop Alameda, building roadways and a new storm drainage system.
The city's plan was to avoid any construction during the Paseo overhaul, but finishing this project is the exception.
"We want to get storm drains in before storm season due to the rains this year and people could still have alternate routes of traffic," said Michael Riordan of the City of Albuquerque.
The city claims this is the only long term East to West problem you'll face during the Paseo project, and here's the detour.
"The Alameda construction project is gonna make people use Oakland, Paseo, or Eagle Rock - one of those alternates. If you use Paseo you don't have to go into construction, you can turn on San Pedro back to Alameda," Riordan said.
Plus, the most obnoxious part of construction -- putting in a new signal system in-- is already finished.
The project is supposed to be finished in the summer of next year.
