The city has a new way for job seekers to get noticed by employers, and it has nothing to do with your resume. Talent ABQ matches up job seekers with employers that need your skillset.

Charla Frasier took her second test through Talent ABQ Thursday. Frasier says the first one she took helped her gauge her management skills.

“It gives you an idea of where you're at, to me,” Frasier said.

She hopes this one will help get her to the next step.

“Right now I work in radio communications and I'm hoping eventually I can be management or after I retire from here, go to a management position,” Frasier said.

Test results for certain skills are sent to Albuquerque employers. Then they can contact you. It also shows companies thinking about moving to Albuquerque that there is a qualified workforce.

“We have real time data that says we have talent available in Albuquerque now -- here are the skills for different jobs,” Michael R. Smith of INNOVATE + EDUCATE said.

The businesses can then get in touch with the right job seekers. The tests cannot be taken online. Instead, you must schedule a time to take them in person. Once you do that, the office can show you how to sign up for free “skill-up” classes to make yourself even more qualified.

The city says hundreds of job seekers have taken the tests since the program started in August. They have 15 employers on board, including First Choice Healthcare and NM Gas Company. They are working on getting more involved.
