The New Mexico Lobo football team is still seeking its first conference win and first win against former head coach Rocky Long.
The Lobos fell 35-30 to Long’s San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday in Southern California.
The Aztecs led 14-7 at halftime and both teams traded scores the rest of the way.
Back-up quarterback Clayton Mitchem entered the game late and cut the Aztecs lead down to five with 46 seconds remaining.
However, Justice Adams’ onside kick was recovered by SDSU giving New Mexico its fourth conference loss of the year.
The Lobos (2-6) now have to win out to be eligible for bowl consideration.
New Mexico will play at home against the 2-7 Air Force Falcons next Friday, but the schedule gets a lot harder after that.
An improved Colorado State teams comes to University Stadium the following week and the Lobos end the year with trips to face #16 Fresno State and Boise State.
