It’s something that hasn't happened in more than a decade.

The city of Farmington is asking people what they want to see out of the city's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.

It’s been 13 years since the department worked on a master plan.

The goal is to decide which direction the department will take over the next 15 years.

"I want to know what the community as a whole wants in a Parks, Rec and Cultural Affairs [Department]," said Cory Styron, director of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.

The department currently finished up a series of public meetings to find out what people want.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 talked with volunteers and visitors at the senior center about what they thought.

"Parks are beautiful, baseball fields, museum, civic center," said Judy Harris.

"I like the water park they have. I would like to see it made even bigger to be maybe a main draw to the city," said Wanda Krause.

But instead of expanding facilities, some people would like to add more staff and services to improve what's already here.

Judy Harris says she'd like to see more people to help at the senior center.

"My concern is that fact that we do have all these facilities but now that I’ve been to many of them more frequently it seems that we lack the staff to run them properly," she said.

The Parks and Rec Department will take information like this to create a survey that will be sent to people in the city.

The survey will be sent out at the beginning of next year.

The department plans on setting up a comment page on their website as well.
