Cameron Bairstow dropped a career high 29 points and center Alex Kirk grabbed 13 rebounds with 24 points as No. 22 New Mexico outpaced Charleston Southern 109-93 Saturday night in the Pit.
Charleston Southern (2-2) tested the Lobos (2-0) endurance but it was the Bairtstow, Kirk and Kendall Williams trio that pushed New Mexico over the top.
New Mexico was tied with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half, the trio ended the half with 23 of the Lobos 31 points to end the half with a 52-36 lead.
Saah Nimley kept the Buccaneers in the game early.
He finished with 24 points and dished 12 assists. Cullen Neal led New Mexico’s deep bench play again with 11 points.
Coach Craig Neal played seven Lobos off the bench, but the bench production seemed limited tonight.
Williams added his double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 assists.
