It's official. UNM post player Ebony Walker is out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles tendon she suffered Tuesday night against Texas.
“It’s very unfortunate to lose Ebony for the season because she was playing at such a high level for us. She has been making a big impact for us this season and was our second-leading scorer. Now we have to help Ebony through the entire process and get her ready to come back next season,” said Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez in a released statement.
Walker was averaging 12 points and seven rebounds a game before the injury.
Sanchez says the team will pursue medical redshirt opportunities for the Albuquerque native who will have surgery later this month.
