New details are emerging about an officer involved shooting over the weekend in Roswell.  KOB has learned a 20-year-old man is in jail for firing at officers.

It started around 5:00 a.m. Saturday.

Police said they tried to pull over 20-year-old Joshua Perez, who happened to be driving a stolen truck.

But instead of hitting the brakes, Perez hit the gas, leading officers on a chase until the gas tank ran empty.

Right past the train tracks on Pine Lodge Road is where the truck came to a stop.  That's where Perez refused to get out of the truck and showed a gun.

That’s when Roswell police and Chaves County deputies fired dozens of shots at Perez.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 learned the stolen truck belonged to Daniel Madison.

Madison said he was sleeping when the truck was taken from his driveway.  He had no idea it was stolen until he got the call from police.

"It was bad," said Madison. “That sinking feeling got worse. But I knew I had two guns in the truck and the keys were in the ignition, it was all my fault.”

Little did Madison know his truck was in the center of a shoot-out, and his guns were allegedly being used by a criminal.

The stand-off with the suspect lasted three hours.  Miraculously, no one was hit.

Joshua Perez is charged with firing at 15 officers, fleeing, stealing a car, and unlawful use of a handgun.

And Madison is without a vehicle.

“The tools that were on it were my livelihood. They're running off with things that make my life livable," said Madison.
