An Albuquerque church decided to say goodbye to 2013 and welcome the New Year in a unique way: a Bible reading marathon.
Since 3 p.m. Saturday, members of the Journey Fellowship have been reading the Holy Bible. From Genesis to Revelations--cover to cover--in 30 minute shifts, 80 hours in all.
It's a small church of about 150 faithful members. They've even gotten a little help from outside their church to join in. The church's lead pastor, Derek Witt, says it has been an ambitious endeavor.
"We've gone pretty much 24/7 reading through. We've been here day and night. A couple of our college kids have kind of manned the building," Witt said.
The marathon will finish around midnight with award-winning local radio voice Frank Haley.
They're asking people from the community who might not have any plans to join them for their New Year's celebration. Snacks, refreshments and a concert will ring in 2014. You can reach them at 505-256-5141 or by visiting their website at http://www.jfabq.com.
