A Los Lunas homeowner says his caretaker got the best of him and even fooled the police.
The caretaker claimed to have killed two burglars in January and dumped their bodies.
State police investigated but didn't find anything.
Now, the homeowner believes the caretaker orchestrated a big cover-up for a different crime.
Not far from downtown Los Lunas, it's easy to see the building blocks to a story here.
It's easy to see Robert Martinez still has work to do.
The trouble is, Martinez says he hired a caretaker who should have completed it weeks ago.
Martinez says he lost trust for the caretaker while out of town to visit his wife's ailing mother in Brazil over the holidays.
This happened after the caretaker himself, a Mexican national, called Martinez to say two burglars nearly got the best of his belongings.
Martinez says he quickly called police, who investigated.
They turned up nothing, even after they questioned the caretaker and left him go.
By the time Martinez was back in the states a week later, he says he turned up evidence of a different crime.
Martinez believes the caretaker made off with expensive tools and covered the tracks, and that police continue to ignore it.
Now, as Martinez continues to piece together the building blocks and evidence, he just wants investigators to pay attention and realize the story on his property is not over yet.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 pressed State Police and the Valencia County Sheriff's Office.
State Police told KOB the case is no longer theirs.
The sheriff's office says they were not aware of these latest allegations.
