ALBUQUERQUE -- For some, a new house means a new chapter. For Chris Hawley and his family, their new home in southwest Albuquerque is exactly that.
"That is still surreal, you know, like a dream," Hawley said.
The home was a "thank you" for his service in the U.S. Army—a surprise gift from Bank of America and the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
"This is such an awesome blessing for us. One we really, really needed," said Jessica Hawley, Chris' wife.
Since Chris came back from Iraq and retired last year, life has been tough.
"I have a TBI, which is a brain injury," Chris said. "I have PTSD, which is emotional and I've had various other things."
All of that on top of a foreclosure. For five years now, the Hawley family has lived at Kirtland Air Force Base in their RV. But on Wednesday, they got the keys to their new home in southwest Albuquerque.
The family was also surprised with furniture from Williamson Restoration Inc.
"It's just awesome. It's just, woo hoo! We won't be stepping over each other," Jessica said.
"Unless we're going through the same room," Chris joked.
