NASCHITTI, N.M. -- The director of the Navajo Nation Department of Emergency Management says a semi fire burning on U.S. 491 has been extinguished. An evacuation order for area residents has also been lifted.
U.S. 491 near mile marker 43 remains closed for northbound traffic as hazardous materials teams are working to clean-up the site. The southbound lanes are open to two-way traffic. There is currently no detour available for northbound traffic.
The San Juan County Fire Department said the truck was carrying a load of propane bottles and adhesive product. The San Juan County Hazardous Materials team extinguished the fire. State Police, Navajo Law Enforcement, NDOT, and NMDOT are still on scene.
San Juan County, McKinley County and Farmington fire crews assisted at the scene, as well as a hazmat unit from Farmington.
