Home Depot likes to tell people in commercials 'Let's Do It.' Thursday, about 60 Home Depot employees were getting it done at the American Legion in Belen. Their goal was to make the post down there attractive, pleasant and comfortable, all in one day.
Don't let the hammering sound get to you. That's the sound of progress.
"We've been around since 1980 something, but we've never really ever had our home and then we were able to find this location, but it was a little run down," said Barbara Bowman, Post 81 Commander.
Bowman says the legion heard about the Home Depot Foundation and paid a visit to their nearby store in Los Lunas. She says they've been working with Home Depot's manager Vanessa Munoz for over a year.
The Home Depot Foundation was recently granted $10,000 to do some renovations and Munoz was one of the volunteers working at the American Legion Thursday.
"We have volunteers from ten different stores, from our district, who have volunteered their time, to help complete this project in a day," said Munoz.
"The paint was very old and ugly. Our bathrooms floors were coming up. We needed some electrical work done," said Bowman. "We needed a place outside because we're a non-smoking facility and some of our people smoke."
Because of all the noise, fumes and dust at the post Thursday there weren't a lot of vets around, but the commander says team Depot's work is appreciated.
"I think they're the most awesome group in the world," said Bowman.
The Home Depot team told KOB they finished 95 percent of the work Thursday. They said some of the volunteers will return Friday to wrap things up.
