Police: two teens robbed elderly woman at gunpoint

ALBUQUERQUE -- An 18-year-old man held an elderly woman at gunpoint while he robbed her with help from a teen girl, Albuquerque police said on Thursday.

Around noon, the 81-year-old woman waved down officers in the area of Coors Boulevard and Avalon Road Northwest. She told police a woman, later identified by police as 17-year-old Sugey Graciano-Chavarria, approached her and asked for money.

When the victim refused, a man, who APD later identified as Raul Daniel Sandoval-Bencomo, tried to forcefully pull her purse off her shoulder and then reportedly pointed a gun at her.

Both suspects fled the area, but police later located them at a nearby motel on 63rd Street and Central Avenue.

Police said they both confessed to the robbery after they were taken into custody without incident.

Sandoval-Bencomo was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The elderly victim was not seriously hurt, but suffered some minor bumps and bruises, police said.
