If you’re a Bank of America customer, watch out for a new scam that's hit New Mexico. You could be tricked into giving up your debit card info to thieves.

Here’s how it works: You get a text message asking you to contact Bank of America at a number with a 575 area code. When you call the number, an automated recording in a woman’s voice says, “A text message was sent to inform that your debit card has been limited due to a security issue. To reactivate please press 1 now.”

If you press 1, you’re then asked to enter your 16 digit debit card number.

“If we notify a customer that their card has been compromised at a third-party location, we would never via text or otherwise ask for personal account information,” said a Bank of America spokesperson.
