ALBUQUERQUE -- Officers took a postal employee into custody after he reportedly fired a gun inside the main post office in downtown Albuquerque on Monday.
The incident took place around 5:45 a.m. at the post office on Broadway Boulevard near Mountain Road. APD spokesman Tanner Trixier said police received reports of an employee causing a disturbance and at least one shot fired.
Postal Inspector Ed Trejo said an employee fired the gun in the vehicle maintenance facility on the ground. No one was injured.
A relative of another employee told KOB that workers intervened to stop the man.
Police turned the man over to the FBI. The postal inspector says he is facing a federal charge of bringing a dangerous weapon on to postal ground. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a fine.
