LAGUNA, N.M. -- Authorities say heavy rain and speed may have been factors in a fatal semi truck crash on I-40 eastbound near Laguna early Wednesday.
According to New Mexico State Police, two trucks crashed near mile marker 115 around midnight. One of the drivers, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:45 a.m.
A driver and passenger from the other semi were both treated and released from ACL Hospital with minor injuries.
Eastbound I-40 was closed between Laguna and Mesita for more than 12 hours after the crash. As of 3:30 p.m. all lanes of traffic were open, but the shoulder was still closed.
