Prior to joining 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in August 2005, Patrick worked in his hometown of San Francisco, California, at KTVU-TV as weekend meteorologist. Before that he spent two years as weekend meteorologist at KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington, and two and a half years as morning meteorologist at KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Patrick started his career by spending four years as the chief meteorologist at KNVN-TV in Chico, California.
Education and Awards
Patrick holds the Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting from the American Meteorological Society. In addition to being recognized by the AMS, he has a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from The University of Southern California. While at USC, Patrick worked as a teaching assistant in the university's Department of Geography. Patrick also received a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. In 2003 he received an Emmy for continuing coverage of Rocky Mountain fires and drought conditions.
When he's not chasing storms, Patrick enjoys fly-fishing, snow skiing, and listening to music by Steely Dan and Phish. Patrick and his wife Kimberly welcomed daughter Francesca in December 2006 and son William in August 2008. They also have one dog. "The Twin Cities is a beautiful urban center surrounded by amazing natural beauty and weather extremes that meteorologists dream of," says Patrick. "I love the legendary Minnesota winters."
