Brian Gapp took a back road to school last Tuesday. The 16-year-old lost control of his car and slammed into a tree. He was trapped inside for over an hour with severe head injuries. He had a piece of glass stuck in his neck just inches from major arteries. He was rushed to Gillette Children's Hospital. He laid in a coma for five days.
His family and friends held an art crawl fundraiser for him Sunday. In the middle of that fundraiser his parents got a call from relatives at the hospital. They told his father, Dennis Gapp, that Brian had emerged from his coma. Dennis Gapp tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that his son's rapid improvement and awakening from the coma was "a miracle." Dennis Gapp told us he felt like the luckiest dad in the world Sunday afternoon.
Dennis Gapp tells us Brian's long-term prognosis is uncertain, but his family is happy he is alive and plan to take his recovery "one day at a time."
