COLUMN: Aaron's Backstage Pass: Meat Loaf

This past weekend I went to see Meat Loaf at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake and I really enjoyed it.

I have been a fan of Meat Loaf for as long as I can remember. My dad had the 8-track of “Bat Out Of Hell” and he would play it all the time, so that’s how I got introduced to Meat Loaf.

When I heard that Meat Loaf was coming to Mystic Lake Casino I knew I had to go. I had never had the chance to see him in concert until now and I was really pumped to see his show.

The concert sold out right away and I was very lucky to have gotten tickets. I had upper left row seats and they were great seats. There is not a bad seat in the place and I was able to see the stage without any obstructions and the audio sounded amazing.

Meat Loaf came out right at 8pm and he played for almost three hours. I was so amazed, because when I go to concerts at casinos, the shows only last for about an hour or an hour and a half. The people that were able to get tickets really got a special treat with this show.

I didn’t look at the time until I got out of the show and it was almost 11:00 p.m. It did not seem like a three hour show, but Meat Loaf was so entertaining in my opinion that the time just flew by.

Meat Loaf played all of his big hits and if you have read my previous concert reviews, I don’t like to spoil set lists, so I won’t say too much about what he played. However, I will say that I was very surprised that he played “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights” right away and I figured that he would close with that song, but the song he chose to end with was very appropriate and was a good choice in my opinion.

I thought Meat Loaf sounded great and I really liked how he would tell stories between songs and they were very entertaining. Meat Loaf is an entertainer and he loves what he does. He said that his grandpa told him to live every day like it’s your last because you may not be here tomorrow and that is what he lives by.

You can certainly see this because he gives it his all when he is on stage, running around dancing and singing and interacting with other band members. For being 65 and having two knee replacements he is amazing.

Meat Loaf’s band was also amazing.  They sounded great and each musician did a solo. They blew the audience away by showing off their musical talents. Patti Russo was also amazing. She is the female vocalist touring with Meat Loaf and she really adds so much to the songs that she sings with him.  She has such a powerful voice and when they sang together it was fabulous.

The audience really enjoyed the show and they were on their feet the whole time. Everyone was singing along to their favorite songs.

I really had a great time at the Meat Loaf show at Mystic Lake Casino. I know that I will be back there for another show in the future. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the venue is just an amazing place to see a show. I also will see Meat Loaf again when he comes back to Minnesota. I am a fan and will always be a fan.
