Gunman, Victim in Cottage Grove Jimmy John's Shooting Identified

Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Cottage Grove strip mall. Officers were called to 770-block of East Point Douglas Road around 3:35 p.m. Thursday on multiple reports of a man firing shots in the parking lot.

When they arrived they found a woman dead inside the Jimmy John's and a man injured with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

One employee said he thought someone had dropped a bucket of pickles when they heard the first gunshot. Then he said a woman came in through the front door and a man followed her.

All the employees rushed back to the cooler to hide, but then heard two more gunshots.

The man was taken to Regions Hospital where he died Thursday night.

Family members identify the man as 22-year-old Chevel Richard of Eagan and the victim as 22-year-old Tensia Richard of Cottage Grove. They were legally married by separated at the time.

The gunman's father, Dale Richard, tells KSTP the couple had two sons, ages 5 months and three years.
